Assessing Students Progress

Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing for Schools makes tracking your students’ progress as simple as calling up their individual class and student profiles and activating for a class or student progress report. This allows you to check their records at any time and see how they are progressing.

During each typing session, the program keeps a running tally of each student’s performance keystroke by keystroke. It stores this cumulative record in an individual student profile, which you set up, and uses the data to respond to the learning needs of each student by individualizing the pacing and difficulty of each lesson.

As you monitor your students’ profiles, you can determine if they are progressing well or are in need of extra help. Schedule regular typing progress conferences with them to review their work and adjust the program for optimum learning. The information gained also helps you assign an accurate grade at the end of the grading period. If you wish, you can print the students’ progress reports in Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing for Schools and distribute them to students and parents as informal report cards. For more information about class and student progress reports, see the Teacher’s Area Reports section of the User Manual.
