Activity 20 - Letter to a Public Official
Here is a chance for your students to voice their opinions on state, national, and international issues, and on important legislation before the US Congress or a state legislature. Either have them develop Activity 14 or 15, or choose a new topic to communicate their point of view to a public official. If you do not know who your representatives or officials are, refer to your local telephone book, or, if you have Internet access, visit:

Teaching Tips
- Consider giving extra credit to students that write more than one letter.
- Encourage students to share any responses they receive from an editor or public official.
- Collect all original letters and create a Custom Lesson for letter practice. Seeing these examples may inspire other student to find and develop their voices while learning to type.
