Activity 18 - Current Events

Throughout the middle and high school years, students build their critical thinking skills, and form and articulate their opinions on many of the days’ current events. Have students clip a short article from the newspaper or a magazine and bring it to class. Use this article in two ways by having them:

1. Type the entire article for practice and familiarization.

2. Review and evaluate the article by asking questions like:

3.  What is the topic?

4.  What is the main point?

5.  Where did it occur?

6.  When did it occur?

7.  Why is it important?

8.  Do you agree or disagree with its conclusion? Why?

   Have each student type the questions and responses.
