Polygons
There are seven tools for creating and manipulating polygons. These tools, from left to right, are:
- Rectangle
- Rounded Rectangle
- Slot Polygon
- Inscribed Polygon
- Circumscribed Polygon
- N-Sided Polygon
- From Curves Polygon
Polygon Fill Patterns and Colors are specified on the Inspector.
Rectangular Polygons
The Polygon Rectangle tool has four creation methods that provide different user interfaces for specifying a rectangle. To access each tool, click the Rectangle Polygon tool on the Polygon tool palette and drag through the sub-tools on the Prompt Window.
Rectangle Polygon sub-tools
Center Point Polygon
This tool creates a rectangle from two points by specifying the center and upper right diagonal.
Diagonal Polygon
This tool creates a rectangle from two points by specifying the lower left and upper right diagonal.
Three Point Polygon
This tool creates a rectangle from three points specifying the center, width point, and height point.
Major Axis Polygon
This tool creates a rectangle from three points where the points are width start, width end, and height.
Also, in the message line is a pull down for Single Line or Smart Polygon rectangles. The Single Line option creates unassociated lines. The Smart Polygon creates a special entity that stores the resulting object as rectangle of width and height.
Rounded Polygon
The round polygon is defined by the length, width, and a radius. The radius is used to define a 90-degree arc at each corner of the polygon. There are four methods for drawing a rounded polygon. To access each tool, click the Rounded Polygon tool on the Polygon tool palette and drag through the sub-tools on the Prompt Window.
Rounded Polygon sub-tool palette
Also, on the Data Entry Window is a drop-down menu for Single Line or Smart Polygon rectangles. The Single Line option creates unassociated lines. The Smart Polygon creates a special entity that stores the resulting object as rectangle of width and height.
Center Point Round
This tool creates a round polygon from two points by specifying the center and upper right diagonal.
Diagonal Round
This tool creates a round polygon from two points by specifying the lower left and upper right diagonal.
Three Point Round
This tool creates a round polygon from three points specifying the center, width point, and height point.
Major Axis Round
This tool creates a round polygon from three points where the points are width start, width end, and height.
Slot Polygon
The slot polygon is defined by the length and width. The width controls the diameter of a 180-degree arc. There are four methods for drawing a slot polygon. To access each tool, click the Slot Polygon tool on the Polygon tool palette and drag through the sub-tools on the Prompt Window.

Also, on the Data Entry Window is a drop-down menu for Single Line or Smart Polygon rectangles. The Single Line option creates unassociated lines. The Smart Polygon creates a special entity that stores the resulting object as rectangle of width and height.
Center Point Slot
This tool creates a slot polygon from two points by specifying the center and upper right diagonal.
Diagonal Slot
This tool creates a slot polygon from two points by specifying the lower left and upper right diagonal.
Three Point Slot
This tool creates a slot polygon from three points specifying the center, width point, and height point
Major Axis Slot
This tool creates a slot polygon from three points where the points are width start, width end, and height.
Inscribed Polygon
The Inscribed Polygon tool creates an N-Sided polygon given a center point and diameter. The resultant polygon lies inside a circle.
Using the Inscribed Polygon tool
- Click a point for the polygon center point.
- Click a point for the polygon width.
- Use the Data Entry Fields to adjust the center xyz, number of sides or diameter.
Circumscribed Polygon
The Circumscribed Polygon tool creates an N-Sided polygon given a center point and diameter. The resultant polygon lies outside a circle.
Using the Circumscribed Polygon tool
- Click a point for the polygon center point.
- Click a point for the polygon width.
- Use the Data Entry Fields to adjust the center xyz, number of sides or diameter.
N--Sided Polygon
The N-Sided Polygon tool creates a polygon from an arbitrary number of points. The end is automatically closed.
Using the Arbitrary Points Polygon tool
- Click three or more points defining the polygon shape.
- Terminate with the right button, ESC, double click or select new tool.
Arbitrary Polygon
From Curves Polygon
Creates a polygon from a collection of trimmed, closed curves. The resulting polygon uses the default fill color and pattern.
Using the Polygon from Curves tool
- Select one or more curves forming a closed shape.
