Special Notes about Previously Synchronized Palm Handhelds

If you have previously synchronized your Palm handheld with the Palm Desktop Software, it won't automatically recognize Calendar Creator's synchronization command. Follow the steps below the first time you synchronize your Palm handheld with Calendar Creator.

To synchronize a previously synchronized Palm handheld with Calendar Creator for the first time:

  1. Click the HotSync Manager icon in the Windows Taskbar tray, then select Custom OR start the Palm Desktop Software, open the HotSync menu, and select Custom.
  2. In the Custom dialog box, select Calendar Creator Events and click Change.
  3. In the Change HotSync Action dialog box, select Handheld overwrites desktop and click OK.
  4. In the Custom dialog box, select Calendar Creator Address and click Change.
  5. In the Change HotSync Action dialog box, select Handheld overwrites desktop and click OK and the message box automatically displays.
  6. Click OK in the message box that says, File Link categories will not be updated for this HotSync option. (See Special Notes on Palm Handheld Compatibility for more about the address book and categories.) Then click Done.
  7. Create an association between your Palm handheld and a new calendar file following the steps in Creating or Changing a Palm-User-to-Calendar Association. (Be sure to create an association with a new calendar file containing no event information. To synchronize the events in an existing calendar file, first follow these steps, then see below for additional information.)
  8. Synchronize your Palm handheld and calendar file following the steps in Synchronizing your Calendar and Palm Handheld.
  9. Return to the Custom dialog box in the HotSync Manager or the Palm Desktop Software. (See Step 1 above for details.)
  10. In the Custom dialog box, select Calendar Creator Events and click Change.
  11. In the Change HotSync Action dialog box, select Synchronize the Files and click OK.
  12. In the Custom dialog box, select Calendar Creator Address and click Change.
  13. In the Change HotSync Action dialog box, select Synchronize the Files and click OK.
  14. Exit the HotSync Manager or Palm Desktop Software.
  15. The synchronization link between your Palm handheld and Calendar Creator has now been established, and the new calendar file has been associated with your Palm user account. Use this calendar file to enter and manage your events and contacts. Whenever you wish to synchronize again, simply follow the steps in "Synchronizing your Calendar and Palm Handheld."

To synchronize a previously synchronized Palm handheld with an existing calendar file:

  1. Follow the steps above to synchronize your Palm handheld with a new calendar file.
  2. Open the synchronized calendar file.
  3. Open the File menu, point to Import, and select Events.
  4. Use the controls in the Open dialog box to find and select the calendar file with the events you want to synchronize. The events from your existing calendar file will be imported into the new calendar file.

Now that you have imported your events into the new calendar file, follow the steps in "Synchronizing your Calendar and Palm Handheld" to update the information in your Palm handheld with the information in the new calendar file. Continue to use the new file to enter and manage your events and for all future synchronizations.
